Cary, I'm serious.... give me some compelling reason for
consumers to benefit below 0.13u that will drive consumer
products that cannot be attained with current technology.
I was part of the device shrinks from 2u down to 0.18u during my involvement in the industry. Now the cost of
technology to support device shrinks has gotten cost prohibitive and the return on the investment takes years
to recoup before a fab can depreciate the equipment and
break even on the equipment purchase. It is my assertion
that current technology will meet 95% of the applications
going forward for 4-5 years, so there is no need to rush
into bleeding edge equipment purchases at this time. Just
think how much improved equipment will be in 4-5 years. I
do concede that 300mm fabs will have a strategic cost effective edge over 6" and 8" fabs, but the products will
continue to be >0.13u for a long time to come, IMO....
