"But he is a moderate, we are told, just as we were told years ago that Bashar Assad, son of Hafez, was a moderate because he surfed the Web and studied ophthalmology in England. Of course, this was before he accused the Jews of killing Jesus, with the pope at his side and in front of millions of television viewers."
Is the killing of Jesus a "disputed story", like the "disputed territories" ? Or does the writer mean it was the Roman soldiers who directly killed Jesus ? And the elders and priests who demanded Jesus' crucifiction had no role ? Kind of like Ariel Sharon was napping for days while the militia his forces brought into the Palestinian camps went on a couple days rampage of killing.
Since the writer is delving so deep into history, shouldn't he recount Begin's bombing of the King David hotel also ? And other terrorist methods of driving the Palestinians out of their homes. Which gave rise to a belated tit-for-tat response on the part of Palestinians. Or is that also a disputed story ?
But oh, wait, the author's bio explains it after all.
"Julián Schvindlerman, a political analyst in Geneva, is author of Land for Peace, Land for War (in Spanish) and a member of the American Jewish Committee." |
