in a book called the History of The Modern World (Paul Johnson) on page 630 there is a quote attributed to JFK: "Now we have a problem in making our power credible and Vietnam looks like the place" of course on the next page it says that Truman was advised that "Indo-China was secondary to the absolute necessity to bolster France as a stabilizing power in Europe and assist her morally as well as physically, to regain her strength (and influence" and further "by 1953-54, America was paying for 80 percent of the French war effort" p.s. any chance you Yanks are gonna run out of money someday for this sort of thing ?
