Likewise, there are indeed some terrible things that happened in your history and as Americans you ought to be ashamed of those things, but the sad story of America is that you seldom learn from your mistakes.

If I had to describe the worse trait of Americans I would say that they are incapable of learning from their mistakes. They allow their prejudices and their passions to rule their common sense. They would rather believe in the worse of foreign people than to acknowledge the best of them. They will always live in a world that seemingly conspires against them because the truth is too painful for them to accept.

As for "Lynching was practiced in the United States from the late 19th century through the 1930's. With the exception of a few isolated incidents the practice all but ceased after the 1930's."
