Mike, I don't think it is chip power consumption on cell phones that is the power hog, it is the transmission power amplifiers required to boost the transmitted signal. I don't think this problem will go away, it is the nature for
a transmission system. In reality, what needs to happen is
for battery or micro fuel cell technology to improve to
provide longer operating time for the phone. In any case
4G isn't likely to become reality until 2010-2012, IMO. 3G
is brand new and actually very few consumers are using its
capabilities. IMO, not many people will want or need all
the fancy options, and once again all those options use
lots of battery power.......BB
