Then there is French. Where you pronounce verbs the same but write them differently, just because they are used with I, you, him/her, we, you (pl.), them.

Il vient

Nous venons
Vous venez
Ils viennent

And the "subjunctive" ("that I came")

que je vienne
que tu viennes
qu'il vienne
que nous venions
que vous veniez
qu'ils viennent

The four bolded verbs are pronounced the same. Nobody knows why they are written differently.

The best are the phonetically written languages like Italian and Turkish. You would be able to read both even if you did not understand a word :-) And then there is Arabic and trust me, you would hate to learn to read THAT language...
