A few years back I had acute rhinitis, caused by an immune system totally confused. This lasted for about 4 months, at times it was so bad that I felt I could not continue working and would need to take extended sick leave. Either my nose was completely blocked or it was running free, very debilitating. In the end I went to sleep whenever I felt tired, and stopped setting my alarm clock to get up in the morning. Eventually I recovered, it is now very rare for me to catch colds, I travel a lot on buses.
BTW I this occurred just after I had a flu inoculation, and I've never had another one since.
