There is an excellent full page "Commentary and Analysis" on hydrogen in today's Financial Times. Alas, I could not find a link at www.ft.com and they seem to have the nasty habit of charging for some articles. Its referenced on the front page and takes up the entire 13th page of my edition.

Here is my letter to the editor in an attempt to augment their story. (Hey, we could have a PR department or a firm to do this for us.....)

"Sir: Your excellent piece on Hydrogen (Comment and Analysis May 13) was flawed by
two omissions. First, the narrative and charts leave the reader with the impression that
hydrogen can only be made by the expensive methods of cracking it from coal or natural
gas, or via electrolysis from water. In fact significant work is being done on hydrogen
producing bacteria and these are proving to be a renewable and less costly source.
Second, the narrative correctly points out that hydrogen's density is a problem when
compared to other fuels. Here, significant work is being done in metal hydride storage,
by companies such as Michigan based Energy Conversion Devices, which allows
significant quantities of hydrogen to be stored at normal temperatures and reasonable
pressures."
