I didn't know that Israel is "buddies" with Turkey
Well, look closer. Trade ties, recognizes Israel, visits... That's pretty good for a (6) state, wouldn't you say?
you should know that Israel has already "made peace" with Egypt.
Exactly. Peace is possible, then, with a (5) state. So why not with a (4) state - Syria? And others...
You suggest that Israel make peace with "failed states".
Most of my post was about how it might not be right, or even functionally effective to tag Middle East states "failed" - as in a binary system where states are either "successful" (1) or "failed" (0). Hence my use of a humble grading system. It was meant to show that just like Israel could deal with Turkey and Egypt, it can deal with the rest. And that, I believe, is a Good Idea.
What value is there to a treaty with a "failed state"? Why would one believe that a "failed state" will uphold the treaty
Could you define a "failed state" for me so I can better understand this binary system? Not that I feel it is valid, of course, but just so I understand why you tihnk it is impossible for Israel to deal with its neighbours.
Israel is clearly the most powerful in the region. This can be made permanent by strengthening a triad (air, land, sea) of nuclear delivery systems and targeting the capitols of every enemy state. This is called "mutual assured destruction".
Not sure about that. Especially since Israel's neighbours are NOT nuclear.
Soviet Union had nukes targeted pretty much everywhere. Were their powerful position "permanent"? Nope.
Fact is that Israel is surrounded by hostile countries. Now (at this point) it is powerful. It is a good time to settle the issues, for there is no guarantee that the status quo will continue indefinitely. |
