Usually exterminators tell you that they have access to "very powerful chemicals" that you or I are not smart enough to understand or handle. We had mice behind our garbage disposal last winter-courtesy of Blue Kitty, hunter extraordinaire. After having five small micelings jump out at me one day, I called the professionals. They came out and said, "Where's your attic?"
I said, "No, the mice are behind the garbage disposal."
He said, "No, they come down from the attic so we place our powerful chemicals that you are not qualified to handle up there."
I said, "No, they arrived in Blue Kitty's mouth and ran behind the garbage disposal. Put the chemicals there."
He said, "No, we can't do that. These chemicals are too powerful to put down here -they might kill your cat. By law, I can't do that. Show me your attic."
So I take him up to the attic and he puts these stupid solid bars of chemicals that are so powerful they can kill cats at a whiff out with his bare hands in various arbitrary corners, a tecnique too complex obviously for a mere layman to comprehend.
When he came down, I said, "Please put one behind the garbage disposal."
He said, "Lady I can't do that. If your cat dies, you could sue. But I'll give you one and you can do it. So he handed me a bar of lethal chemicals that I am too incompetent to handle and that it's illegal for me to buy or access, and I stuck it behind the garbage disposal.
The mice were gone in several days, but it probably wasn't my doing, as I lack the advanced technical training and expertise necessary to do this type of work. Which is why we have professionals to protect us.
