what about the pension fund "assumptions" where a particular rate of return was utilized and now looks unrealistic...have certain long time industrial stocks declined due to the above, perhaps ownership in these was not "money thrown at hucksters" but money invested for years or decades. i think that they have.

interesting though that people could have looked around and while perhaps really trusting no one on wall street would not have gotten hurt (or hurt much) by buying one share of berkie b at a time when they had saved enough to pay for it in full. its not like he was such a big secret...
