That is an interesting thesis. I wonder if anyone has studied it. Have you looked for any papers on that topic? I think it does not require sports. It is the simple formula of- "those not with us are against us". I think sports evolved to fill that need, which already exists in people. Most people really need to have enemies (or so it would seem). And most people do not want to see their enemies as people- it doesn't take any education to think of yourself and your side as "right", and the other side as wrong and evil- any child can do that. What requires education is to be able to see things from the other guys point of view. Any ignorant person can be a bigot- but it takes education to be enlightened- and not necessarily formal education, but some kind of education. imo of course
