Ira, I don't use Realplayer either. Just checked and as I type Win Media Player is playing an mp3 file for me. But it has the mp3 extension. When media player is open, click TOOLS>OPTIONS and look around. FILE TYPES should have mp3 checked. Try to play a file with mp3 extension. If it plays ok, then MP just gets confused by the wrong extension. Gottfried
