Attempts To Unseat Ford As Lead Police Car Manufacturer and Other Automotive Industry News
City of Industry, CA, May 14, 2003 (financialnewsusa.com via COMTEX) -- Two automakers are attempting to unseat Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) as the leading maker of police cars. General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) and DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group are making bullish attempts to break into the market, long dominated by Ford's Crown Victoria. Industry watchers estimate police fleet business accounts for 75,000 to 80,000 sales a year. Ford's Police Interceptor, as the Crown Victoria is known, commands 60,000 of those annually. GM hopes to grab about 6,000 in sales with its rear-wheel drive Chevy Tahoe, due out in 2004. Bruce Wiley, program manager for GM's law enforcement unit, said the Tahoe will be the first sport utility vehicle designed for high-speed chases.
Shares of Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. (NasdaqNM: SIRI) jumped 16% Tuesday after the company announced that Ford Motor Co. will carry Sirius' equipment and service in cars coming out this fall. Sirius' digital service, which is largely commercial-free and can be picked up across the country, will be an optional feature on 10 different Ford, Lincoln and Mercury 2004 models. Ford plans later announcements about putting Sirius in Mazda, Land Rover, Volvo, Jaguar and Aston Martin cars. Sirius already can be found in BMW AG and DaimlerChrysler AG cars. The New York-based company is fighting for turf with Washington, D.C.-based XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (NasdaqNM: XMSR), which has exclusive deals with General Motors Corp.
Environmental Solutions Worldwide, Inc. (ESW) (OTCBB: ESWW), is proud to announce that it has become the first Company to receive a technology verification certification from Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Canada Inc for a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) converter. ESW's proprietary High Performance DOC achieved a reduction of Particulate (PM-10) of 66.7% by weighted average. There are currently in excess of five million diesel utility engines below 50hp/37kW in use across North America alone. For example, these types of diesel engines power construction equipment, small generators and refrigerated transport trailer/rail cars. This is the market that the application scaleable Quiet Cat(TM) diesel catalyst/muffler is designed for. ESW has been working with ETV Canada to have its Quiet Cat(TM) utility engine high performance catalyst/muffler's Particulate reduction verified within the ETV program. The verification process involved a full emission data review on behalf of ETV Canada by a third party emission lab.
