Jochen,

While I am not satisfied with the state of affairs in Europe my impression is that the role of the EU is exaggerated in US reporting. I doubt that life in Europe is that much more regulated than in the USA

I noticed visiting Europe, even 25 tears ago, life was more regulated by government and the EU bureaucrats than in the US. EU has far more power nowadays.

I think you should get on a boat as soon as possible and come to US and Canada (yes, Canada, even!) and see for yourself.

It surely isn't paradise here but there is a qualitative and quantitative difference.

Some things are unfortunately too similar, such as the outrageous subsidies given to farmers and favoured industries with the disastrous consequences for much of the rest of the world.
