You wrote:"The post I was referring to before was full of ethnic slurs. That is bigotry. You assert that any critique of flag-waving amounts to the same judgment. It is not. " Your note criticizes those like me who proudly wave the flag to support America's war against terrorism. I did not find you to be a racial bigot, I found you to be a bigot against patriotism and pride in America, and I thought that I was as clear as you were when you said: The flag-waving bigots are appealing to the worst in the US character and finding it, unfortunately. Would you like to rephrase that statement, or take it back? You wrote:"If you think ethnic bigotry is a core belief of democracy and freedom, then we truly disagree on fundamental issues." My response to you had nothing to do with ethnic bigotry. Neither did the post of yours that I was addressing. You were quite clear when you related most American's support for America in the following way: "And they have no comprehension at all how much they are damaging the US image around the world ..." Before America gets upset about our image around the world we must first look at WHO hates us. The answer is obvious. WIth few exceptions, those that hate us are those in dictatorships, terrorist states, or incompetent corrupt systems around the world. America should not give up it's quest for peace, freedom and democracy in the world because the tyrants hate us. You wrote:"If you need to go through life looking for enemies and hatred, I have no doubt you will find them. " They already found us on Sept 11th and yesterday in Saudi Arabia. You are damn right that we are going to look for the enemies of America. And, as you said, we'll find them. Our image with the terrorists is going to get worse. Does that bother you? |
