I have been debating selling some of my ALTR and XLNX to buy AMAT. I was inefficient in my allocation so I have more ALTR and XLNX than the "plan" and less AMAT. The AMAT conference call was positive. I got a very confident feeling that they were doing very well in the things "they could manage" (CSCO CEO Chambers phrase). I don't know what you mean by "old stuff". It is true that they dominated aluminum, they dominate almost everything, and aluminum is being replaced by copper. I remember NVLS CEO Hill's comments on PVD. NVLS bought the division from Varian, I believe, and they have been very slow to make a success of it. Hill said it wasn't from lack of effort. AMAT is a very tough competitor.

Morgan talked about the "Next Reality." It sounded a little like CSCO's Chambers. The themes are closer relationships with customers and offloading "non-core" process R & D from customers. Also, that IT is transitioning from the initial phase to a more expansive, robust next phase with much greater opportunity.
