McCarthy was an irresponsible thug, who set back the cause of anti- communism. Making reckless charges is no way to root out Communist influence in government. It is, of course, the case that the Democrats sometimes use smear tactics. On the other hand, one need not go back to Marx or Lenin to find a recipe for such tactics, one can go back to the Founding Fathers, when Democratic Republican newspapers used the vilest terms to describe Federalist politicians, and Federalist papers libeled the Democratic Republicans.
There is no Democrat that I know of who favors, or even believes it is possible, to truly redistribute wealth to eliminate social classes. All of them accept a basically capitalist framework, or a social democratic (Swedish) framework. It is obvious to you because you do not know much about Marxism or the Democrats, so superficial similarities mean too much to you. As far as the demonization of religion and any morality go, many Democrats are church or synagogue or mosque going folk. A small minority are actively hostile to religion, and most of them have some theory of morality, even if not one that suits us........ |
