WAYNE, N.J. — Integrated Device Technologies (IDT) is combining its recently released RC32428 MIPS-based communication processor with Cavium Networks' Nitrox Lite CN1001i security processor to produce a Linux-based secure gateway design for small- to medium-side enterprise and virtual private network applications.

The RC32428 is developed around a 32-bit MIPS CPU core. The processor includes a memory controller supporting DDR memory and a PCI interface capable of sustaining up to 160 Mbytes/s data transfer across the bus. The chip also includes an on-chip PCI arbiter and two 10/100 Ethernet ports.

The CN1001i processor is aimed at designs requiring 100 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s of secure bandwidth and up to 7000 RSA ops. Designers can link into this part through a 32-bit/66 MHz of 64-bit/66 MHz PCI buses.

In addition to the processors, the combined reference platform is delivered with a bundled software package that includes Linux-based IPSec security stacks, a royalty-free Linux kernel and GNU development tools.

The agreement with Cavium is IDT's second partnership with a security processor vendor in the past month. In late April, IDT also struck an accord with SafeNet that paired thee RC32428 with SafeNet's security processing solution.

The IDT/SafeNet is also targeted at secure gateway designs.
