Simple.

It is called "internet time"
Information travels much faster and thus you have to be adapt.
Compare a chart of the Nikkei to the Nasdaq peak to trough... you answer is right there I think.

Makes a lot of sense. The internet has changed things in a big way.

The trading tools(popularity of shorting,ETFs,funds such as rydex for everyone,futures trading on huge margins)
allow people to go from one extreme very quickly.

will be a very interesting few months.
