Reality is, raw-boned 'free-market' capitalism stripped $40 Billion out of the pockets of U.S. West Coast electricity consumers and passed that fraudulently gained money on to the blue-eyed sheiks of Houston and their banker co-conspirators on Wall Street. Reality is, Europe never suffered the phony energy crisis that was foisted on the West Coast of the U.S. by the crooks. Though England suffered a case of this price gouging, courtesy of Enron and their hellion agent there, Lord Wakeham, who did his best to engage in thievery.
