It may be new, but it's not inconsistent. I figure the Repubs thought, heck, why wait 10 years? And if there's nothing in the state constitution or laws that require them to wait 10 years, why wait? Tradition? Practice? Where party interest is at stake, those are pretty weak reeds to expect any politician these days to stand on. Expecially in Texas politics, which bears to politics in our state the same relationship that Demolition Derby bears to ballet.
