There was plenty of dirty fighting on both sides in 1948.

I've noticed that same people who continually drag that stuff out of the mothballs are usually the first to condemn anyone who raises the issue of the damage caused to mankind during the 20'th century by communism, because that's "living in the cold war...".

In 1948, we still had a way to go in the US before facing racial discrimination squarely, and McCarthyism would come and go. France still "occupied" Algeria as a colonial territory. One could go on and on citing these things that show how "that was then and this is now".
