Ira, There is an AMAT thread and an AMAT No-Politics thread. The division was made when off topic posts were beginning to overwhelm on topic posts. Most people have accepted the division and it has served both purposes. I think you need to examine your "squatters" statement. Most of the original off topic posts on the AMAT thread were placed by long time AMAT thread posters. There is more value in the post of people you "know". I have found that the AMAT No Politics and Wennerstrom threads have taken over much of the content of the old AMAT thread. I believe any shortfall is primarily due to the effects of the technology market crash of the past 3 years. Lurkers are certainly "welcome" on those threads. I think SI was correct to ignore your complaints. The problem was solved by the community most closely involved. Aside from the fact that politics is discussed under the heading "AMAT", how has this development and the creation of an alternative "No Politics" thread impeded your access to useful on topic discussion?
