Although I'm a big sports fan I have precious little interest in golf - barely even checked in on the whole Tiger phenomena or the recent Augusta mess - but this catches my interest. It's the classic root for the underdog scenario. All I've heard about Sörenstam is positive - she sounds like a class act who is willing to challenge herself to take a huge step up to a new level rather than to just stay in her comfort zone and win championship after championship against lesser competition. It reminds me a bit of when Ichiro came from Japan to play for the Mariners. Everyone said he was great - for a Japanese player - but that the big boys would put him in his place. All he did in his first season was win rookie of the year and MVP. While there is no chance that Annika will be a superstar in PGA competition, I gotta root for her to surprise some folks and at least make the cut, and have a respectable finish.
