OK, if you've got PBS and the U.S. government saying it, it's more credible; truth isn't truth, until people who see the world very differently, see the same truth.
What they see, in this case, is a lot of loose ends. Barrels of nasty stuff unaccounted for. Weapons the Iraqis say they destroyed, but the UN didn't see it destroyed. Lots of that. And, I'll admit, it makes a good story. It's plausible. I wouldn't have been surprised, if our tropps had needed those airtight suits, as they approached Baghdad. But all the pre-war loose ends, don't prove (key word) Iraq had WMD.
If it were a true story, the story that scared Americans into war, then the 100,000+ inspectors, very motivated inspectors, currently on the ground in Iraq, ought to have found something. In the end, it's facts, universally acknowledged hard facts, that are decisive. And the facts are, no WMD have been found. |
