Let's look at the implications of the socket "problem" you think Ascend had. Are you (Scrapps & David) saying that 84 pin sockets just weren't to be had? Nobody made them at the time? Therefore Ascend, with the design information from Rockwell, was stymied as to their ability to mount the chips on the all-new circuit cards they had designed for the 56K modem until such time as these all new sockets were created?

Or are you saying something to the effect that Ascend always used 60W light bulbs but the new design required 100W light bulbs - because if that's what you're saying I say, so what?!!

If you're saying those chips were so radically different from any sockets available on the market, that Rockwell's design was so peculiar that no sockets were available that could be used with the chips, that might be different - but I want to hear you say that.

And then I'll forward it on the Ascend to see what reaction we get from someone over there. How's that? Or will you dismiss any answer that puts the kibosh on your assessment as being so much more FUD?
