In part you are correct, except that the native Americans did not have land deeds to "prove" ownership. It was their belief that land cannot be "owned" by humans.

The American natives have their grievances that yet need to be worked out from 200 years ago.

Isra'El's misdeeds are recent and the players are mostly alive and yet holding the keys to their former front doors.
