In some cases, superior to the average talent available in SV.

Where would that be? I'm curious.

I have worked in a few geographical areas of the US implementing large DB projects and I was amazed at how little knowledge of how to get a system up and running exists outside of SV. For the really big DB projects like Dell, SV personnel is relocated for the implementation period.

As an example of what I mean, when I first went to a shop in the Detroit area as a sort of visionary person for order mgmt, I found they were hiring DBAs and moving them around in a development capacity when the needs arose. This isn't really the right way to staff an order mgmt dept, DBA skills and business analysis, R&D are completely different skillsets.
