I found the TAINJ book to be too much of a grind, so I got the laser disc video version, starring Harrison Ford. BNS, DNNS and the other trading systems are presented entirely in the context of an action drama that takes place on a nuclear submarine. It's sort of an updated "Das Boot." Richard, of course, is the captain. David Evans is the navigator, who (forgive me for revealing the ending) winds up saving the sub. G.W. Riedeman is the engine room chief, and Andy Gabor the intelligence officer. Wolfgang Lauer is featured in the role of spy. Chan is the first officer, and David Coburn (with that secret weapon of his, TSFDAHL) is the topedo man, 1st class. Claud is sonar operator, scanning for great new indicators and systems, always quick with an interpretation or translation. Henry Brookins is featured as the liaison at headquarters. Bill Sandusky plays the pilot who rushes to the rescue of the sub with BNS, as the film morphs into a remake of another Wolfgang Petersen film, "Air Force One." Even DNS has a minor but crucial part, as the periscope. I feel that I was cheated by my role, which was borrowed from "The Spirit of St. Louis." I play a fly on the bridge, buzzing around, getting swatted occasionally. It's an action-packed drama, and though it sometimes stretches the realm of credibility (how could a fly possibly fire a machine gun?), I found it entertaining -- and instructive.
