Ascential Software Announces Support for IBM DB2 Information Integrator

Tuesday May 20, 1:18 pm ET

Partner Solution Delivers Real-Time, On-Demand Enterprise Data Integration across Diverse Information Environments

LAS VEGAS and MUNICH, Germany, May 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ascential Software Corporation (Nasdaq: ASCL - News), the enterprise integration leader, has declared support for IBM's (NYSE: IBM - News) new DB2 Information Integrator software. IBM today announced general availability of Information Integrator, which enables on-demand access to, and management and analysis of information stored on any platform across and beyond the enterprise, at the 2003 International Users Group Conference and IBM Software Symposium 2003.

The combined solution of the DB2® Information Integrator and the Ascential(TM) Enterprise Integration Suite delivers an end-to-end solution for real-time data quality, transformation, integrated access and analysis of all data types across myriad repositories anywhere in the enterprise.

"Ascential Software complements the capabilities of DB2 Information Integrator by enhancing and enriching enterprise data, regardless of the time demand or volume, to maximize customer efficiency," said Lauren Flaherty, vice president of marketing, IBM Data Management Solutions. "Combining this function with the Information Integrator's ability to federate and manage data residing in multiple sources expands the reach of our joint solutions and can help customers achieve new levels of performance."

Today's announcement deepens the long-standing IBM-Ascential strategic partnership through which IBM resells Ascential products as a data integration platform for DB2 data management solutions. Ascential's support of DB2 Information Integrator dramatically enhances customers' ability to maximize the value of enterprise data, increase operational efficiency and profit, and extend business capabilities to new markets.

The IBM-Ascential integrated solution will greatly benefit the many customers seeking both federated and consolidated data integration solutions. The performance advantages of the Ascential Enterprise Integration Suite for data profiling, data quality, and data transformation, supported by meta data management, parallel execution, and real-time service platforms in high throughput environments, combine with IBM's DB2 Information Integrator's capabilities in federated data management, information integration, analysis, unstructured data, replication and advanced searching. The combination lets customers derive maximum revenue and profit from all business data, regardless of type or source.

The Ascential Enterprise Integration Suite has been combined with IBM solutions to help customers such as Bank of Thailand, Bombardier, China Mobile, Deutsche Bahn, Food Lion, Freddie Mac, Galeries Lafayette, JP Morgan Chase, Sears Roebuck & Co., Telstra, US Bancorp, U.S. Department of Justice, Symbol Technologies, Worldspan, and Xcel Energy develop high-performance data warehouses, data marts and operational data stores.

"IBM and Ascential have long aligned their products and business strategies to deliver the highest optimized business value to their individual and joint customers," said Mike Cassettari, Ascential's vice president and chief marketing officer. "Enterprise integration is an enormous business challenge to which IBM and Ascential each bring critical solutions. We continue to work with IBM to deliver the fastest time-to-value for strategic application initiatives, including industry solutions for financial services, SAP instance consolidation, business intelligence, and supply chain optimization."

The DB2 Information Integrator enables customers to extend their reach of access and search capability across a federated environment of both structured and unstructured data. Distributed access delivers important new benefits by easily handling traditionally steep challenges such as dynamic joining of data, combining structured and unstructured data, managing data that is not practical or possible to copy, and accessing data that moves only infrequently.
