Apple Announces `Power Up Pick Up' Mail-in Rebate on the Power Macintosh 4400
with a Multiple Scan 15AV Monitor

CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ --Apple Computer, Inc.
(Nasdaq: AAPL) today announced a mail-in cash rebate in the U.S. of $200 for
consumers who purchase any Power Macintosh(R) 4400 computer with an Apple(R)
Multiple Scan 15AV monitor from August 2 to September 26, 1997.
Offering rebates on the already-affordable Power Macintosh 4400 series is
further proof of Apple's commitment to provide the industry's most powerful
and easy-to-use computers at competitive prices. The "Power Up Pick Up"
rebate is one of several offers featured in the new Mac(R) advertising program
which highlights how easy it is for customers to upgrade to new Macintosh(R)
computers, including computers based on the PowerPC processor with Apple's
latest operating system -- Mac(R) OS 8.
Starting August 2, 1997 rebate coupons will be available through Apple's
FAXback service and website. Consumers can contact the FAXback service at
1-800-IMAGE96 (800-462-4396) and retrieve the coupon by requesting FAXback
document number 11576. Additionally, customers with access to the Internet
can download and print the coupon from:
powermacintosh.apple.com.

The Power Macintosh 4400
A compelling combination of computing power and low price, the Power
Macintosh 4400 series is a slimline desktop computer that appeals to both the
home and business markets. Featuring a 200 MHz RISC-based PowerPC 603e
processor with a 256K Level 2 cache, these computers deliver Mac customers a
great combination of price, performance, and expandability. The Power
Macintosh 4400 series offers seamless multimedia features and comes in three
models:

* Power Macintosh 4400/200 - This all-purpose system combines
affordability with performance, with plenty of room for expansion. Key
features include: 8x-speed CD-ROM drive for smooth multimedia playback, two
PCI expansion slots, 16 MB of RAM, 2GB hard disk, built-in Ethernet, and all
the software customers need to access the Internet.

* Power Macintosh 4400/200 Small Business - This system delivers the
speed, performance, and versatility needed in growing businesses. It comes
with 32MB of RAM, 2MB video RAM, a 2GB hard disk, 1.4MB floppy disk drive,
12x-speed CD-ROM drive, speaker-phone and digital answering machine, and
built-in fax modem, as well as leading business software, including Microsoft
Office, Norton Utilities, Now Up-To-Date and Contact, and Jian BizPlan
Builder. Priced attractively, this system comes with an extensive assortment
of business and office software.

* Power Macintosh 4400/200 PC Compatible - This system offers outstanding
compatibility with the PC world. In addition to its PowerPC processor, it
includes a PC Compatibility Card with a Cyrix PR166 6x86 processor -- so
customers can run Mac OS, MS-DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, or
Windows 95, switching between operating systems. Additional features include
32MB of EDO RAM (Power Macintosh) and 16MB of local RAM (PC Compatible Card);
12x-speed CD-ROM drive; 2GB hard disk; and, built-in Ethernet.

The Multiple Scan 15AV Display
This high-quality, yet affordable half-page monitor sports a sleek design
and a flat, square shadow mask screen that provides a larger diagonal viewing
area -- 13.75 inches -- than many other 15-inch monitors. This display can be
used with Macintosh computers and PC's running Windows. The Multiple Scan
15AV comes with integrated stereo speakers and headphone jack to complement
the advanced multimedia capabilities of the Power Macintosh 4400 computers.
To receive the "Power Up Pick Up" rebate, customers will need to complete
a mail-in rebate coupon, attach it to their original proof-of-purchase
(receipt or invoice), and submit it to the appropriate address postmarked by
October 24, 1997. All purchases must be made by the same customer. The 4400
computers and 15AV monitors must be purchased at the same time and place to
qualify for the rebate. There is no limit to the number of computers/monitors
customers can purchase under the rebate offer. Once the appropriate
documentation is received and validated, rebate checks are expected to be sent
directly to customers within six to eight weeks.
Any authorized Apple reseller can participate in the promotion by calling
StartingLine at 1-800-825-2145 to order merchandising materials. Resellers
can request rebate coupons by referring to part number L02490A. Additionally,
a full merchandising kit, including the rebate coupons, free-standing shelf
display, and promotional signage, can be ordered by resellers (part number
L02491A).
