This may make good sense if it's economic to do, KC - those draggers are scouring the ocean floor of all life ... each sizeable piece of scrap iron might save several square kilometres of fish habitat, as the draggers may not trust their GPS to be accurate .... if there were no habitat there, there would be no fish, so they wouldn't be scraping it, would they ... and there is no environmental degradation in sinking ships or whatever, as long as you clean out any heavy metals, PCBs, asbestos, etc [which can be costly, it is quite a process how they sink old ships out here for divers' reefs]
It's an idea worthy of consideration, imho .... the extent to which draggers are destroying ocean life is not as well known as it should be, which is amazing when you consider what they did to the tommycod .... they want to sue for busted nets? - hah, a few rounds from a seventeen-pounder ought to fix that attitude |
