I think that it's possible that you and Lizzie are talking about 2 different things. I live in SV, but I've lived and worked a few other places, too, and for the kind of software that I work on, SV really does have the best people. MSFT has some, too, but almost all of them came through here.

For instance, if you had designed a new kind of computer, and needed to write an operating system for it, I think that you would find that you'd have much better luck assembling a team in this area than anyplace else. If you are trying to get a piece of software that you can specify in advance, perhaps you can do better elsewhere. That's not the kind of work I do, so I don't know anything about that.
