2:37PM Yardeni: Investors should lower EPS expectations by Julie Rannazzisi
Prudential Financial's chief investment strategist Ed Yardeni said equity investors should lower their expectations for sustainable long-term earnings growth. "Look for companies that have a history of successfully competing in highly competitive businesses and are paying dividends. It may be harder to find companies that can boost their revenues and earnings by raising their prices," the strategist said in a research note. Yardeni believes its is "safe to assume" that short-term rates will remain near zero in the major industrial economies. "If central banks are likely to maintain near-zero interest rates in their effort to avoid deflation, then bond yields might continue to converge down towards short-term interests rates as they have in Japan," he said.
