Greenspan spoke of deflation in 1998/1999 too. Of course, rates were considerable higher then, so nobody took it all that seriously. Still, it remains a question...return to 1930 and review the steps taken to fight the downdraft. Considerably different scenarios than today's situation, and all fairly manageable at this stage. However, the one thing that is unmanageable is fear and greed. That is, psychology. Media feeds on sensation, and media plays sensation, so reality becomes rapidly skewed. Looks like we're living that old Chinese curse. We're living in interesting times.
