The French and Russians, who paid far below market value for the oil, sold it at huge profit, and then paid kickbacks to Saddam and his cronies. All while the average Iraqi was starving.

It is no wonder that the French and Russians were so opposed to the war, and wanted to continue with sanctions. They were making a fortune with the status-quo, and so was Saddam. But the entire charade was criminal.
