They always ignore the part where Kennedy says this will only happen after we win, and that losing is not an option.

LOL... Since when do historians and political observers have to rely on public/official statements/comments to appraise the genuine feelings/opinions of past and current statesmen?


I was referring to private comments by Kennedy, not public comments. He repeatedly and unwaveringly said in private that we can ONLY pull out of Vietnam AFTER we win.

Indeed, if US opinion can be fooled into believing that JFK and LBJ were eye to eye on Vietnam

It's very hard to compare any two Presidents on Vietnam, since the situation was constantly evolving. But, I don't see any major difference. Maybe Kennedy was a dove in the sense that he would not have continued the war after it became apparent we were losing and it was hurting our own economy (late 1960s). I don't know. We do know that Kennedy's war crimes in Latin America gave Johnson the shudders.
