Expensing options has nothing to do whether you're for or against options as a compensation tool.

It has a lot to do with the motivation for many people that advocate expensing options. The excesses surrounding executive compensation in the corporate scandals has led to a cry for expensing options in the hope that this will stop excessive competition to executives. It won't, the executives who abuse compensation schemes will find ways to avoid restrictions. It will cause the reduction of option grants for mid and lower level employees.

On another level many that don't receive option compensation are jealous of the success of those that do. They want to punish the fortunate high tech employees, and others, who have benefited and will benefit again from option compensation in return for their 60 and 70 hour work weeks.
