At the analyst day conference 5/21. Jerry Soloway, VP Engineering, noted that:

* the 3G focus of R & D in China is W-CDMA

* they expect to introduce a dual mode PAS/GSM phone--July

So-- wrt << 2) a cdma2000 network for the 3G license of either Telecom or Netcom>>

Some press material that's come into view emphasizes the technological similarities of W-CDMA and TD-SCDMA. Older press seemed to leave all doors open, with UTSI willing and able to sell anything to anybody. The latest info seems to point not to cdma2000 efforts, and that may relate to Telecom/Netcom choices. Those two have also been ordered recently by MII to make moves toward interconnection.

The Xiaolingtong/Unicom trials are most likely PAS/GSM.
