Excerpts --
RENO (CBS.MW) -- Veteran stock picker Louis Navellier is very bullish. So much so, he can hardly contain his enthusiasm.
But at the end of the day, he's more concerned about the state of the companies that he invests in, rather than the overall health of the market. He looks for good companies with sound business models and proven earnings -- though, as a growth-oriented investor, a little momentum never hurts.
Then Patina Oil and Gas (POG: news, chart, profile) is just basically the recovery in natural gas prices. Natural gas prices collapsed -- not this winter, but the winter before -- because there were two mild winters and two mild summers. When you're in the natural gas business, you want two things: Freezing cold winters and hot miserable summers. That gets gas demand up.
In the winter they use gas to heat and in the summer they use it to fuel electricity. So the more air conditioners that come on, the more natural gas you sell.
So as the natural gas market firms up, it's helping stocks like Patina and XTO Energy (XTO: news, chart, profile). |
