I find lots of coulds, mights, and possiblies but nothing along these lines: "We know that the Model X Frobozz controller will burst into flames/start running backwards/start generating erroneous results at the stroke of midnight January 1, 2000. We know that this failure will be permanent and that the only feasible circumvention is to replace these controllers with newer Model Y controllers before the Y2K deadline."

My point is that folks have been working on this problem for a while now. All I'm looking for is a specific example of a known failure which has been identified and quantified as to its impact and resolution. Surely there must be lots of "fortunately we discovered this case in time" stories to share by now. I'd like to see at least one.
