compared with 802.11a/b combos, the .11a/b/g does not cost 15% more. See the TI announcements from February for NIC BOMs.

ISM is everywhere microwave ovens are, 5GHz is not. Much more relevant is the countries with 5GHz available, with/without DFS/TPC. Right now the Japan 5GHz channels are offset from the UNII ones by 10 MHz. Right now, there about 30 countries with unlicensed 5GHz, mostly the 5.15-5.25 indoors. The US is the exception.

Apple has chosen the pure OFDM .11g, and eventually it will be common, but until then the APs will also have to support CCK.
