Neal, I agree with much you say. The problem today is that in order to attract external talent, the hiring company is faced with many complicating factors, including satisifying existing options/compensation at the hiree's present employer. You either step up to the plate or look for the "diamond in the ruff". I have personally reviewed several companies that have structured packages similar to what INTC and EMC are doing. These have even been structured at some of the lower food chain companies such as insurance and retail.

The decision we all have to consider is whether this is in the best interest of AMAT. I personally have a very high opinion of AMAT and their management. The company has been the 800 pound gorilla for many years running. When I invest in a company, management is number one, product/sector number two.

JMHO for what it is worth.

I am holding my shares for now.
