<<I realize that I'm flirting here with FL's request to postpone discussion of this issue, but I think the administrations position could be strengthened a lot if they would reveal some of the information on which the assessments were based. >>

Here is where I have to trust the Administration who has the info on foreign matters and has to keep it very secret. Considering the quantity of Special Forces we had on the ground in Iraq I reckon we have spies everywhere , especially since 911 has demanded that we work much closer with Intelligence agencies of other Nations who would not want us to divulge their sources or contacts
I would not expect to soon hear all that was known at the time Congress gave GWB the go-ahead on the war. It
must be more than we have heard to date, being such a serious effort.
Perhaps the Intelligence Agencies did present too strong a case, mis-interpreted some photos, got conned by
certain informers. Since they are not talking, it gives the Press an open field to surmise but no facts to back up their accusations.
So the CIA, the FBI, and the Administration are pretty close-mouthed about our Intelligence data or sources which seems appropriate.
What matters more than the reasons given is whether the effort to eliminate Saddam has eliminated some evil from the world or some threats to the US. One could probably make a list of over 20 reasons why it was good for Iraqis.
