>>It's not about Bush and not really about US or international politics<<
What is it then? Its not a ringing endorsement of Bush 2004 is it?
>>The Bush administration is, of course, notably unconcerned about deficits. Aren't the tax cuts in the pipeline exactly what the economy needs? Alas, no. Despite their huge size — if you ignore the gimmicks, the latest round will cost at least $800 billion over the next decade — they pump relatively little money into the economy now, when it needs it. Moreover, the tax cuts flow mainly to the very, very affluent — the people least likely to spend their windfall.<<
Here is another point of view from the Washington Times. >>As Mr. Greenspan has frequently noted in the past, and as Japanese experience has confirmed, once deflation takes root, it is even more difficult to fight. In this context, Mr. Bush's economic-stimulus and growth-enhancement package, which he unveiled Tuesday, is as timely as it is necessary.<< tinyurl.com
Fighting deflation is an ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure type of thing.
I applaud Bush for once again taking the political risk of bold action rather than passing it on to the next guy to solve because it is politically risky. It is called leadership. In my opinion of course. |
