Hi TD,

Just changing the color of a pill has never been enough to extend a patent. Using different coatings in a way that changes a drug to an extended release formulation, for example, has been used to extend patents. Other things drug companies are doing are coming out with oral dissolving forms of their pills that are about to go generic, developing specific isomers of their soon to be generic drugs, and other creative ideas. They are looking for methods that don't cost too much, but change the drug enough to be granted an extension of their valuable patents.

The potential market for anyone that can offer the drug companies a capable and cost efficient technology that helps them extend the patents on their block busters is obviously very large.
