Even Greenpeace finds little to dislike about glyphosate in ground water. It binds to soil, and what doesn't bind degrades quickly.

But I think it's irresponsible to use it on suburban lawns, just to get that weed-free look. In the US there are lots of commercials on TV promoting the use of Roundup on your lawns as something wonderful. All the poisons run off the lawns up the hill and through my back yard on their way to the storm drain and out through the water into the Chesapeake, eventually, killing aquatic plants and frogs as they merrily go on their way.
