Well, sigh, you misunderstood my post. I simply offered a supporting post, not a critical post. I thought you had two points, which you made quite nicely but was concerned to make certain everyone else understood them. One was drawing on Milgram to offer a generalized statement about human beings under conditions of stress willing to obey immoral orders; the other was to condition some of it on racist regimes.
To state it differently, using language you offer in this latest post, Milgram argues that, regardless of conditioning, put human beings in great stress to follow immoral orders and they will do so. That is independent of "indoctrinating" which one can also call socialization, fear, power, whatever theory works for you that leads people to demonize others.
As the saying goes, from my point of view, we are vigorously agreeing. |
