I've posted the numbers before here... but the GAO has the authoritative numbers.

Problem is - before there even WAS a 9-11, Bush administration discressionary spending was running at twice the Clinton rates... and has only increased since.

Just in his first year, Bush signed the bill increasing farm subsidy payments, and imposed tariffs on steel imports (which increase costs to all consumers down the line, and act as a tax on the general economy... and yet this tax is not even counted in the higher Bush spending numbers I referred to previously.)

Over the 2 1/2 years - so far - of the Bush administration, less than 1/2 of the increase in spending has been attributable to either increased defense spending (for example: the military that went into Afghanistan and Iraq is the military force structure left by the previous administration... the Bush spending increases were only approved last October, and have not had time to impact the force structure yet) or to '9-11' costs.

Bush has YET to veto ANY spending bill.

He appears to be following the LBJ example of increasing defense and social spending across the board... and paying for it by borrowing.
